We are glad to invite you to participate in the 8th International Symposium on Liquid Metals Applications for Fusion (ISLA-2024)!
The plasma facing components and blanket are two key components of fusion reactor. By reducing the heating power requirements in the expected enhanced confinement regimes, liquid metal first wall is a potential solution to solve the problems of power extraction in future power-producing reactors. Meanwhile, liquid metal blanket concept is a promising solution to realize a high-power density DEMO fusion blanket system due to its advantages such as continuous replacement of breeder for reprocessing, no radiation damage for breeder, simpler blanket structure, and better thermal transfer than solid blanket concepts. Hence, the research and interest on liquid metals has had a rapid growth in the fusion community over the last decades.
The purpose of International Symposium on Liquid Metals Applications for Fusion (ISLA) is to bring together scientists and engineers actively engaged in research on lithium and liquid metals applications for fusion devices so that recent progress and issues can be discussed in an open forum for the eventual development of attractive fusion reactors. The 1st ISLA was held by Japan and then it was held every two years. The 8th International Symposium on Liquid Metals Applications for Fusion (ISLA-8) will be held by the Institute of Plasma Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences on September 8-12, 2024, at Best Western Premier Hotel Hefei, China. This conference continues the series of conferences on lithium and liquid metals applications in fusion devices previously organized in Japan, USA, Italy, Spain, and Russia. The scope of the symposium still focuses on all liquid metals that could be possible candidates as plasma facing components for DEMO, breeding blankets and liquid metal loop systems.
