As an important control component in the power system, the performance of AC contactors is directly related to the safety and reliability of power system. This paper aims to study the effective methods for reducing the temperature rise of control coils in AC contactors. First, the reasons for the temperature rise of the control coil in AC contactors were analyzed, including electromagnetic design, material selection, as well as the working environment. Then, the various influence factors on the temperature rise of contactor control coil were studied, such as coil operating voltage, coil wire diameter, coil turns, and iron core air gap. This study found that reducing the air gap of iron core, decreasing the working voltage of coil, increasing the wire diameter of the coil, or increasing the coil turns, can all play a major role in reducing temperature rise. The research results of this paper are important for improving the performance stability and extending the service life of AC contactors, may also provide some references for the researches in related fields.
