The underwater electric energy conversion modules are the key instruments for powering electric facilities in the cabled underwater information networks (CUINs) which have promoted the development of marine science. The performance of the energy conversion modules determines the stable operation of the entire CUINs. Different from previous energy conversion circuit that uses inductors to store and transfer energy, a novel isolated constant current to constant current (CC-CC) converter that uses capacitors as energy storage and conversion media is proposed in this paper, in which the energy of the load is completely supplied by the capacitor. To prove the feasibility of the designed converter, we first analyze the circuit working principle by applying the state space method. Simulation and experiments show that the current ripple is small while the converter has excellent constant current (CC) output characteristic. Moreover, the output current can be modulated by the duty cycle of the pulse width signal while the dynamic adjustment range of the converter is large. The proposed CC–CC converter has good rationality and feasibility, which provides technical support for electric energy conversion, and is suitable for the future development of the CC remote power supply system of CUINs.
